Lauder, Central Otago, New Zealand
The Eddy Covariance CO2 flux measurements made at Lauder were specifically instigated for the Endeavour funded Carbonwatch NZ project ,https://niwa.co.nz/climate/research-projects/carbon-watch-nz. Grasslands are likely to be associated with potentially significant carbon sources and sinks, which may be manageable. Currently, New Zealand’s National Inventory Report, NIR, assumes established grasslands have zero net flux. Measurements are vital to estimate realistic fluxes:
• Flux estimates can be added directly to the ‘bottom up’ NIR once they are validated.
• Provide apriori constraints and validation of ‘top down’ regional and national CO2 flux inversions.
• Provide apriori constraints and validation to ‘bottom up’ biochemistry modelling of terrestrial carbon
flux.
The Lauder Eddy Covariance system, ECS, is in a paddock, 6.28h, of a local farm, that is adjacent to the NIWA Lauder atmospheric research station, Central Otago, South Island New Zealand, 169.680318E , 45.037779S. Central Otago is classified as Arid. In the Koppen-Geiger classification scheme, it is Cfb/Bsk.
The site was established in September 2019.
For more details of the site and ECS please see the Ozflux Lauder Metadata page:

Lauder data uploaded to the Ozflux portal can only be processed, L4-L6, with PyFluxPro V3.4.21 or greater, due to a file concatenation bug in prior PFP code versions. Individual files can be loaded.
Data quality is unaffected.
