Fletcherview OzFlux tower site
Data from the Fletcherview OzFlux tower, North Queensland.
The Fletcherview flux station is located in a fully functioning cattle station called Fletcherview Research Station. It was established in January 2022 and is managed by James Cook University.
The Fletcherview flux station is located 100 km from the coast, southwest of Townsville in the upper Burdekin catchment. Permanent tower location: -19.887208° 146.188970°
Fletcherview Research Station covers 1960 hectares of open savanna woodland, with an understorey of native and exotic grass species. The station includes 2.5 kilometres of the Burdekin River and incorporates three major creek systems (Lolworth Creek, Pandanus Creek and Hann Creek).
The instruments are mounted on a 30m tower . Fluxes of heat, water vapour and carbon dioxide are measured using the open-path eddy flux technique. Supplementary measurements above the canopy include temperature, humidity, windspeed, wind direction, rainfall, incoming and reflected shortwave radiation and net radiation.
The early years (2022 - 24) involved collection of data on a mobile 25m tower, Jamie Cleverly was responsible for the mobile tower data collection. On 26th June 2025 the flux data set collection commenced on a permanent walk up 30m tower.
